Risk assessment:
The cell line carries HHV-8 sequences which were detected by PCR and Southern blot. We did not determine the infection mode of this herpes virus and cannot exclude the secretion of the viruses. The cell line is thus categorized biosafety level 2.

Medium:
80% RPMI 1640 + 20% h.i. FBS
Subculture:
seed out at ca. 1 x 106 cells/ml in a 24-well-plate; optimal split ratio of 1:2 to 1:3 every 2-3 days; maintain at 0.5-1.0 x 106 cells/ml; after thawing, viability may drop to 50-60%, but cells recover after 4-5 days; during the first days of culture change medium only
