Morphology:

large, mostly adherent cells; 90% round cells (singly or aggregates), 10% spindled-shaped cells with long processes

Medium:

80% TC 100 medium + 20% h.i. FBS

Subculture:

cells are difficult to culture and grow slowly! split confluent culture 1:3 to 1:6 every 3-4 days using a (plastic) cell scraper

Incubation:

cells grow without CO₂ at room temperature (20-25 °C)

Doubling time:

ca. 50-100 hours

Harvest:

cell harvest of up to 12 x 10⁶ cells/80 cm² flask

Storage:

frozen with 70% medium, 20% FBS, 10% DMSO

Species validation:

Species-level identification was carried out by mitochondrial Cytochrome C Oxidase Subunit 1 (COI) DNA barcoding according standard ANSI/ATCC ASN-0003-2015 and revealed Spodoptera frugiperda species.
