Origin:
established in 1996 from the tumor tissue of a 57-year-old man with local recurrence of a previously iodine-irradiated follicular thyroid cancer (well-differentiated with dispersed poorly differentiated areas). Cells express the transcriptionally inactive delta p53 isoform. A sister cell line with a truncated delta p53 -/- is also available (ACC 859). Useful for studies with p53 family members p63 and p73

Subculture:
split confluent culture 1:3 to 1:4 every week using trypsin/EDTA (for 10 min); seed out at ca. 1 x 106 cells/25 cm2; maintain at ca. 8 x 106 cells/175 cm2; maximal density at about 14 x 106 cells/175 cm2
Incubation:
at 37 °C with 5% CO2
Doubling time:
ca. 60-80 hours
