Risk assessment:
The cell line was established from animals of the captive breeding of a zoo; Additionally to our own virus testing for human pathogenic viruses, the animals and the cells were shown to be negative for rabies and henipaviruses (incl. Hendra, Nipah and Cedar virus) by external laboratories. The cells were categorized biosafety level 1.

90% mixture of DMEM and Ham´s F12 (at 1:1) + 10% h.i. FBS
Subculture:
seed out at ca. 1-2 x 106 cells/25 cm2 flask; split confluent culture 1:2 to 1:3 once or twice a week using trypsin/EDTA

at 37 °C with 5% CO2

Species validation:
Species-level identification was carried out by mitochondrial Cytochrome C Oxidase Subunit 1 (COI) DNA barcoding according standard ANSI/ATCC ASN-0003-2015 and revealed Rousettus aegyptiacus species.
